Born in the UK, Sam Walwyn grew up in the Caribbean surrounded by an eclectic mix of music spanning everything from Cuban Mambo to Caymanian Soca. This sparked his interest in use of rhythm and would later influence his approach to songwriting. Later moving to Jersey in the Channel Islands he began listening to Folk, Flamenco & Pop. Here, Sam began learning the guitar & took his first steps towards creating his own music.

His early performances at local shows immediately grabbed the attention of promoters who soon offered him his first support slot for none other than Sir Tom Jones. This was swiftly followed by his first festival offer to perform on the new Kaleidoscope stage at Bestival placed in a line up along side amazing acts such as Tom Misch, Fickle Friends, LA Salami & The Mispers.

Travelling to Australia, Sam studied the right hand techniques of flamenco guitar with Nigel Jones and Damian Wright, before successfully auditioning for the Royal Northern College of Music. But Sam really found his voice whilst recovering over a two year period from the life-threatening illness that forced him to drop out of that College.

Before he could walk, or even talk properly again, he found he was able to play his guitar & began writing everyday. Sam took this time to really develop his sound & started uploading live clips & short films to Instagram with his lo-fi bedroom demos behind them.

As soon as he was able, Sam began performing again. His original blend of indie folk & alternative pop soon helped him to gain support slots for artists such as Gabrielle Aplin & shows with Newton Faulkner. Sam has since performed live for BBC Introducing & Sofar Sounds, sold out his first headline show, self promoted his first UK mini-tour, played venues including Notting Hill Arts Club, The Troubadour, Ronnie Scott’s, Camden Assembly and even the O2 arena amongst others.

Throughout his early career Sam has been building a loyal fan base who are excited to see what the future holds for this young singer/songwriter who releases his debut single in June 2020. Written on a surf trip last summer, in a staircase in Hossegor ‘For You’ is a song about gratitude.
